Dr Sreshtha Chakraborty

Research Fellow

Dr Sreshtha Chakraborty is a Research Fellow at the Centre for Aerospace Power and Strategic Studies (CAPSS), New Delhi. She specialises in India’s foreign policy, West Asian and Gulf geopolitics, Cultural Diplomacy, and Non-Western IR. Her research focuses on India’s evolving strategic partnerships, Gulf security architecture and the changing dynamics of West Asia. Dr Chakraborty received her PhD in West Asian Studies from the Centre for West Asian Studies, School of International Studies, Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU). Her doctoral research examined India’s Cultural Diplomacy with the United Arab Emirates, drawing on extensive fieldwork across all seven emirates supported by the Indian Council for Social Science Research (ICSSR). She also holds an MPhil in West Asian Studies from JNU, where her dissertation explored Qatar’s role in the Israel-Palestine conflict, informed by field research in Israel and the West Bank.

Prior to joining CAPSS, Dr Chakraborty served as Assistant Professor of International Relations at the School of Law, Bennett University and convened the Centre for World Affairs. She has also taught at O.P. Jindal Global University and Amity University, Noida, and delivered lectures at leading academic institutions, universities, and strategic think tanks across India. She is also a subject-matter expert on West Asia in CENJOWS.

Her scholarly work spans India’s engagement with the Gulf, strategic partnerships, regional security, cultural diplomacy, global governance, middle-power diplomacy, and contemporary geopolitical transformations. She has published extensively in Scopus-indexed international journals, including Economic & Political Weekly, Global Change, Peace & Security, Jadavpur Journal of International Relations, and Roundtable – The Commonwealth Journal of International Affairs, among others. Her research has also appeared in edited volumes published by Bloomsbury, Palgrave Macmillan, Taylor & Francis, and Pentagon Press. She is currently co-editing a book for Peter Lang Publisher, Switzerland.

Beyond academia, Dr Chakraborty is a regular commentator on international affairs and strategic issues. She has contributed analyses and opinion pieces to publications including The Telegraph, The Financial Express, Firstpost, The Daily Guardian, offering insights on India’s foreign policy, West Asian geopolitics and global strategic developments.

Her current research examines India’s expanding role as a strategic and security partner in West Asia, the future of Gulf security architecture, defence and aerospace cooperation, and the implications of emerging technologies and multipolarity for international order. Through her work, she seeks to bridge rigorous academic scholarship with policy-relevant research, contributing to debates on India’s role in shaping the evolving global strategic landscape.
